On a rating of the home gyms out there, this is probably one of the best for it’s price. It can work about any muscle that you need worked. My family used it as a laundry hanger for awhile, but once we all started using it, we used it too much for any laundry. The effects get you addicted to the machine. I am a teenager and have muscles appearing that I never had before I used this bowflex.
The Bowflex Ultimate XTLU has everything you can need from Lat Pulldowns to Leg Press. The only exercise I can to complain about is the Ab exercise. It is done by putting the two handle straps around your shoulders (bench is at the 45 degree angle) and you tighten your stomach muscles and move into a sitting-up-straight position, then go back. This exercise digs the straps into my shoulders, and it’s very hard to take the straps off, especially when the weight is high. Before you try this exercise, make sure you have on a tee-shirt (not a tank) and have someone to help you put the straps on and off if you have any sort of shoulder injury. My dad dislocated his shoulder and had surgery, so he always needs help taking putting the straps on and off. Also, the exercise isn’t very effective.
The only other thing I have to complain about is the constant need to change the exercise position and/or the weights and/or the exercise object (ex. handles, bench-press strap, lat bar…). Once in awhile, I jam my finger when changing the weights and exercise object. So I don’t jam my finger when I change whatever exercise to connect to the carabiner, I have to take the weight off. On some home gyms, such as Precor ones, you just start exercising with whatever you need (it is already attached to the weight). Also, getting up to change something after just about 8 repititions gets annoying.
Other than those two complaints, this is a very, very good home gym. The S3.55 from Precor is much better, but I don’t know many people that could possibly afford that.
