The was the worst thing about this machine. I am a single, stay-at-home mother who built the thing myself. I was able to do it all in a period of a week, working on and off on it for a few hours each day. The only thing I was NOT able to do myself was lift the upper section onto the lower section. It’s just too heavy. Other than this step, all other 2-person steps can reasonably be done alone.

The workouts I’ve been getting from my bowflex are terrific. I feel a good, deep muscle burn. Of course, it’s not the same as lifting free weights, but the smooth motion leaves you in less of a position for injury, especially if you work out alone as I do. The manual is great, except that there is no photo demonstration of the rowing technique. All other exercises have a photo demonstration showing you the movements. I thought that was a little odd.

The attachments (I have them all sans the DVD player) are laying all over my floor and I am going to buy an attachment rack to put them up properly. Also, I have a dog who is interested in the foam, but no longer because I bought “bitter spray” at WalMart to prevent him from chewing it. It really stopped him from being so interested in the foam covering some of the moving parts.

The attachments give you a very good workout as well. The ab attachment works out my abs a thousand times more efficiently than the ab lounger I bought 2 years ago. I can really feel the difference! The ab attachment is heavy, at least for me, and cumbersome to add on. The squat machine is difficult to “step into” to begin exercising. You attach the weights when it’s in the LOW position so you wind up doing a squat to lift the weight to get into starting position.
