First of all I can never compete with the facts that jo.com discussed about the machine great review.
I have had the bowflex sport for over a year now and keep it in my garage. I have never had a problem with it. It did take around 2 1/2 hours to assemble and I consider myself pretty handy with all the tools and such.
The machine feels sturdy. The back board feels solid. The only time it feels a little awkward is when you first try to do squats with it. You must stand on the metal crossbar or it wobbles. The cables and pulleys are smooth.
I am in the military and time can be an issue. This machine provides a good workout in a short amount of time. I like the resistance but it does feel different than free weights. Importance is stressed on form and slow reps.
If you are reasonably fit you should buy the weight upgrade, 50lb power rods, when you buy the product. Especially for the squats. I also bought a tricep extension bar from a sporting goods store to work out tris by doing press downs from the lat bar pulleys.
Changing exercises can be a little more time consuming on this model. Especially when changing to lats using the pulldown from chest. Not more than a couple of minutes.
My wife, 5′6″, 110 lbs has a problem lifting and lowering the unit bench portion to store it. It is kind of heavy. Moving the unit can also be challenging, it is awkward and heavy.
I have enjoyed working out on the machine it does provide a good workout as promised on the infomercials for being on the low end of the product line. It also has plenty of variations of exercises.
Bowflex does not include any kind of workout with the machine. It does have exercise directions and pictures but no example workout which seems odd. Especially since company discusses 20 minutes a day 4 times a week to a better shape but no example of 20 minute workout.
I really like the machine, I enjoy using it and I can’t think of anything I really am unhappy with the bowflex sport. The only thing I wish I could change is pulley position. I would like to be able to move them to change positions a little like the newer machines.
I would not have this as your only resistance training if you are fit. I still have dumbells and a roman chair in the garage.
