My husband and I pre-ordered the Bowflex Revolution Home Gym and received it a few weeks ago. While we had considered some of the power rod models, we were attracted to the fact that with the add-on plates he could have up to 600 lbs of resistance for leg exercises. He felt that gave the Revolution more room for him to grow into than the other Bowflex systems we looked at.
The gym was delivered in 6 boxes (including our additional plates). Bowflex does just about everything they can to make the gym easy to put together. Hardware was clearly marked and the instructions were clear. The few times I struggled with it was because I had read the instructions carefully enough. Be sure to read the instructions before you unpack the unit, as there are some specific directions for putting the engine and the base together that involve leaving the main engine in the packaging.
There is a bit of a learning curve to quickly move from one exercise to another. Be sure to watch the instructional DVD–it has some good tips. My husband and I both worked out regularly before we purchased the unit, so I can’t say it has necessarily improved our physical conditions, but we have given up our gym membership and use the Bowflex for our strength training. I also like the rowing that can be done for aerobic conditioning.
My only disappointment is that the unit is a little bit large for me–there are exercises that state I should place my feet on the floor while laying on the bench, for instance, and I find that the floor is a bit of a stretch. To use the leg press, I need to sit on the front edge of the seat. My husband (6′1″ to my 5′6″) has stated that the machine feels just a bit big to him as well. We may adjust to that in the future, but if you are very petite, this machine may be a struggle for you to use.
Price paid for the base unit was $2399. An additional 80 lb upgrade cost $99 and shipping was $209.
