O.K. I decided to spoil my husband and order one for him with all the trimmings including the full 410lb compliment of resistance (notice I said resistance) and later on the chest bar attachment. Well, maybe it was for me too and I just used my man as the excuse;-) After it arrived in about 6 weeks on 2 separate days he assembled it. And of course there I was in sweats waiting for him to put the last bolt in. As soon as he did I got to break it in. Poor guy.

I was in pretty good shape, 5′ 9″ 117lbs. Pretty thin, but needed to tone up. My husband kept telling me how he tried this machine at one of those places that resells old equipment and that he was convinced this was the machine for me. I knew he really wanted it, so I got it and it’s been good workouts ever since. The rowing feature is nice and I rotate that into every workout session of benches flys, crunches, leg lifts etc. I now have what my husband calls nice ripps and a washboard stomach, or a six pack. Well I feel great and the Bowflex is really living up to the hype.

I use it after I get home from work. About a half hour to an hour depending on the routine every M,W,F. I feel a good burn but no pain to my joints and that’s good for me. My Husband is also 5′ 9″ 190lbs. Very physically fit, great tone and a nice V shaped back. He is also very intense and will put the machine through it’s paces. He always comments on how the machine seems like a good fit for us, because if we were taller then getting into and out of the positions required to do some of the exercises would be a headache. I agree it does seem awkward at first, but if the proper posture, form and rythem can be found you’re set.

I love the way it dominates our Gym setup in the basement. It just looks like a piece of Sci-fi in the middle of the incumbent bike and Treadmill. I wish sometimes that it wasn’t so big, but since the results I’ve gotten are the real thing I can live with that.

I remembered that my brother used to own one of those Soloflex Muscle machines, some of the exercises were similar, but I like my Bowflex better because it’s mine. I think it does more exercises anyway. I don’t recall if his could roll or fold up. I also tried the Gym thing with my hubby a few times. I didn’t like the atmoshpere, like I was being watched all the time(creepy feeling). And if there was someone using the equipment I intended to use, it was a hassle to have to do a 10min or longer “cool down” depending on how many people were in front of you.

The feel of the Bowflex is fine for me. There is a gradual increase in the resistance as I come closer to a full extension. I prefer this to the constant force of a freewieght or universal type of setup. My husband tells me this is safer since we won’t have spotters around and thus we won’t “overlift” or over exhert ourselves taking on more than we can handle. I like that. Safe sounds good. And I can still workout and get a good cardio with some aerobic workout on the one machine before going to a treadmill or bike. Should have paid more attention to those infomercials a long time ago.

I paid about $1900.00 for the unit direct from Bowflex including shipping. About 7 months later I got the Chest bar attachment ($70.00) for my husband’s birthday. He loves the difference this small change made to his routines. We’ve had it for over a year and counting on many more. Don’t recall any breaks, maybe a worn footpad or wrist grip, nothing more.

I bought it as an alternative to the grind of having to get everything done at home and then pack up the kids to the babysitters and then off to the gym with hubby. What a headache. You just can’t fit this into a day. And I hated leaving the kids again after they just got out of day care. And the Gym in the home is great. It allows me and my husband to rotate shifts of workouts and child care, get a good burn and stay fit, healthy and maintain our sanity(especially maintain our sanity). Highly recommend it for working parents. We need the time to work out and lifting kids just doesn’t always cut it…
