Let’s start off by calling it straight, this is a HOME exercise machine. If you are a gym grunt or want to be a gym grunt at home, this will not make you happy. Free weights have their place in life and in mine they hold doors open on windy days.

If you want to work out reasonably well with a nice complete set of exercises that involve toning and even bulking up, this is a comfortable choice. Resistance training is widely known to be joint friendly and the Bowflex has plenty of resistance in its arsenal. When properly set up, and you in the proper position, the resistance can be phenomenal.

My unit arrived in 7 days, and was in 4 boxes. I set up the unit,it needs its own room, which was no harder than any of the complex toys my children play with, and read the manual and viewed the tape. My wife and I spent a few hours creating a custom work out that we believed suited our individual physiques. I have had this machine for 3 months and have gradually increased the weight in accordance with my ability to maintain constant repetitions at a particular given weight. I have noted 20-30lb weight increments in all areas that I have worked, arms,stomach, shoulders, legs, and yes I began at a challenging weight. My wife, post 3 babies, last by 1 year, has had dramatic results from her routine. All it takes is multiple dress sizes and an increase in muscle in 12 weeks and you realize the long term potential of this machine. The Bowflex is a fine partner but a nutritional diet, as always, is extremely important for optimum results.

I have had no real problems with this unit, the rubber cable stops are a little annoying sometimes, but are minuscule as far as being a problem. The hand grips take some getting use to as far as their self adjustments to your hands, but the learning curve is short. The cables on the lat bar need a hook or holder and it can be irritating having them fall down while you are performing another exercise. These are comically the few problems with this unit, paltry whining at its best.

I looked at the soloflex(not a contender), PT 3000(makes a nice rehab machine) and the Smith machine(closest to gym at home)and came down to the Bowflex for the type of weight used, size, and easy transition between exercises

My wife and I use this machine Monday-Friday for an hour at a time and it is wear free. We do 9-10 exercises in a particular group and alternate groups every other day. We supplement cardiovascular training with walking a few miles per week.

I bought mine after extensive research and mountains of procrastination. If you know of anyone who has one, use it. You will be impressed.
