Reviews on Bowflex Power Pro XT Great All Around Workout! I bought my Bowflex in Jan. 01. My goal was to gain strength and lose weight. The Bowflex was a little difficult to put together, but I'm ...
My husband and I both decided it was time to get into shape. I started with power walking on the road and aerobics 2 years ago and then decided to purchase a treadmill. Once hubby saw the weight coming off of me, he too decided to use the treadmill. We then turned to small weights and after awhile with those, decided it was time to look at home gyms.
We purchased a small fold up home gym similar to the one Chuck Norris advertises. It utilizes one’s body weight by adjusting the slant on the board. The greater the slant on the moving body board, the greater the weight you are using. The machine was not to our liking. It constantly caught my hair in the rails, and was cumbersome to use. My husband simply outgrew it and wanted more of a natural feel to exercising.
We then researched home gyms and decided upon the Bowflex Power Pro. Ordering to delivery took less than 2 weeks even though they did tell us it could take up to 4 weeks.
Assembly was relatively easy. The instructions were clear and we put it together in a couple of hours.
The machine is a bit heavy but manageable. We actually assembled it downstairs and carried it upstairs when completed.
The Bowflex takes up half of a spare room in our home. You do need a fair amount of room in order to accomodate the bows and the leg extension accessory.
The machine is easy to use! Changing the resistance between exercises is very quick. Even hooking the cables to the attachments is a breeze. We purchased the optional lat bar also. It’s hubby’s favorite attachment though. I do not use it all that much.
My favorite is the leg extension unit. I find it comparable to commercial leg machines, and it’s actually harder to do in my opinion than using the machines at the gym.
The seat has a pin that locks it into place or lets it slide for the rowing exercises. The board is split and can be used as a slant board by propping the top against the bow support and locking the seat in place. The bench is also lifted out on hinges and it comes off completely or can be placed to provide support to the torso when doing the leg curls.
The Bowflex provides smooth movement throughout. The jerking movement in some other home gyms is non existent with the Bowflex.
The manual gives many exercises to choose from to work the different areas of the body, so the workout is fun and varied. There is a diet and workout plan in the manual but we have are not interested in doing that. There are sample workouts to choose from and we both use these as a basis for our own workouts.
The video that comes with the machine is more fluff than substance in my opinion, but it does give some general tips on how to use the machine.
We’ve had our Bowflex for about 6 months now. Hubby’s arms and legs have become quite muscular using this machine. My arms are now very toned and my legs and buns are getting there. To be fair though my husband is faithful with the machine and works out between 4-6 days per week. I have slacked off a bit but still use it and plan on getting back on track with my program.
The machine does target more of the upper body though. I wish it could do wonders with abs, but in my opinion there is not a lot of ab work you can do with this machine.
The Bowflex Power Pro is a good machine. Not built as well as a commercial machine, but for the money, it is definitely comparable.
We love our Bowflex and it is not a machine that will sit in a corner holding the laundry.
