I bought my Bowflex in Jan. 01. My goal was to gain strength and lose weight. The Bowflex was a little difficult to put together, but I’m not good at that stuff anyway! After spending about 4 hours putting it together, I prepared for my first workout. Later in this commentary, I will be critical of the Bowflex. Yet, I enjoyed my first workout very much. The cable system was sort of awkward, but there is great resistance from the power rods. You must be careful to keep steady pressure thru the rang of motion, because it can jerk your arms if you don’t. This summer, I started working out on my deck. I noticed a huge increase in my strength! My bench press went from 240 lb to 280 lb in 10 days. I was shocked!!! Then I worked out inside on a cool day, and could barely do 250 lb. The rods are more flexible when it’s warmer. Another fault of the machine is the frame that holds the seat. The frame is made out of plastic, and it cracks around the wheels. I had to replace the seat for $52, but that’s all I had to do. All in all, this is a great overall workout. You can do a total of 64 exercises to keep your routine fresh. It’s great for the arms, shoulders, and your back. As a male, I am not too happy with the exercises. The 310 lb resistance was way too easy for me during presses and squats. I quickly upgrade to the 410 lb set, and that helped some. Currently, I am benching about 250 lb on the Bowflex. On free weights, I can bench about 220 lb. This isn’t real weight, so keep that in mind. Let me end by saying overall I am happy with my purchase. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate the Bowflex a 8.5. I’ve lost 25 lb in 8 months, and my muscles are very tone. I hope to look like that 40 year old in the commercial in a couple of years! I’ve never really thought about the $1800 I paid for the Bowflex, because I enjoy it so much! If you’re looking for the best all around home on the market, then get the Bowflex! Besides, if you don’t like it you can sell it on Ebay!
