It has been about 15 months since I started exercising on a Bowflex, and I have seen results. Do I look like the people in the commercials? Not yet. Have I lost any weight? Not really. Am I stronger than I was when I started? Yes I am.

The Bowflex is a very well designed system that gives you nearly the versatility of a gym in your own home. One of the things that I like most about it is the versatility. It takes almost no time to switch weights or switch exercises, with the exception of the leg attachment. I’ll talk about that later. As I’ve progressed and my needs and interests have changed, the Bowflex has been able to change with me. In the time I’ve had it, I’ve adapted my workouts several times. My routine now consists of two sets of 8 exercises, and gives me a decent overall workout. In the past there were as many as 12 exercises that I did on a regular basis. My point is that it is very adaptable.

There are a few things that I am less pleased with. Most notably is the leg attachment. It is somewhat of pain to put on and remove. This is made worse by the fact that with it on, there is a good portion of upper body exercises that you can no longer do. That means in a typical workout, you will usually need to add or remove it. Once it is on though, the two exercises it adds are fairly good, though I do feel a bit precarious doing the leg raises. Worth noting is that I got the leg attachment for free, just by asking if there were any specials when I ordered. That is something that is worth doing.

So, when all is said and done, is the it? Like any other piece of , that depends more on you than on the machine. It takes persistence and discipline to achieve results. Given that, the Bowflex can be a good tool. I still use mine regularly and find that the benefits I get are the worth the time and effort I put in. I don’t look like Randy (the guy from the commercial), but I do look better than I did and I am stronger and healthier. If you have the will, Bowflex is worth checking out.
