Since we bought a travel trailer 2 years ago we have been struggling with how to work out on the road. I used to bring a set of dumbbells and bands but that just wasn’t enough for me. My husband brought a product …
Noting that I work out on a regular basis is an understatement as I find myself in the gym hitting the irons early in the morning when most of my co-workers and compadre’s are in bed resting. However fitness has become a part of my daily routine, not …
My husband and I bought a set of these weights when we moved further away from the gym where we had a long-time membership. It became inconvenient for him to workout and with gas prices so high, I didn’t drive in that often either. We love these …
BACKGROUND HISTORY I’ve been working out nearly half my life. I was a collegiate All-American swimmer, began bodybuilding after college in very serious gyms, and then designed and bought a complete free weight home gym years later for home. We just …
OVERVIEW: I bought both the Selectech 552 and 220 for myself and my wife. We’re in our early 30’s, fairly active and have worked out regularly, although not religiously for years. Our goals are; me to lose the extra stomach weight I’ve gained and …
I’m not one to copy the owners manual or instructional DVD in my reviews so I’ll skip all that. I just want to help out with those people who are considering these things. For those of you who are considering these things and also, someone who will use …
For years I have used a small home gym consisting of a Bowflex Power Pro home gym machine, as well as a few cheap additions, including Gold’s Gym Push-Up Bars, a couple fixed weight dumbells, and ab roller. After a while I realized that it was time to …
Overview Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells combine 15 different weights into one space saving package. The weight starts at 5 pounds and runs up to 52.5 pounds in increments of 2.5/5 pounds. This weight range should be more than enough for most …
Let me start by saying my name is not Hulk and I have no trouble finding clothes to fit me. I don’t bench 350 and I don’t shed my shirt in public every chance I get. I’m a regular guy who would love to be in better shape. That never ending quest led me …
A reviewer mentioned that the top weight may not be enough for some. I find the opposite: Dumbbells are much harder to lift -per pound- than barbells, and these will probably be all you need for life. (Go to an exercise shop and pick up the 50lb …
I asked for these for my birthday, and I am incredibly happy that I did. I don’t have space at home for a full dumbell set, and I hate messing around with a bunch of plate changing. This product fits my needs perfectly. I like to do 15-20 rep sets …
Just like everything else Bowflex makes, the Select Tech dumbbells are over-priced junk! If you’re in the market for adjustable dumbbells do a little research as there are MUCH better options. IMO, Powerblock dumbbells are the best adjustable dumbbells on the market. For virtually the same amount of weight (5-50lbs) you can get a set of Powerblocks for $349 that can later be expanded up to 90 lbs or even a 130 lbs. With the Select Tech, you get 52.5 lbs and that’s it! The plastic construction alone on the Select Tech’s should be enough to make you avoid them like the plague. I have two friends who rushed to purchase these dumbbells and the mechanism that adjusts the weights has failed on both of them. Now they have $400 worth of unusable junk!
The system is good however, I have had them for a couple of days and found out that you can’t even set them down on anything other than the dumbell holder. The weights are held on by very weak plastic holders. I put mine down and didn’t set them down exactly straight. A little piece of plastic flew out of the system. I looked it over and found out that it was the little piece that held on one of the weights.. I’m a bit nervous now lifting 52.5 lbs. on the bench. It this system can’t take such a small force applied unevenly, then it has no business being over my head. I’d beware if you are wanting this system to work out with heavier weight. They should have designed this with steel holding the weights on.
The Selectech is a good option to any strength training program that you may want to start.
I have a Bowflex Power Pro, an elliptical and now my newest addition is the Selectech from Bowflex.
These dumbells are not perfect but add a necessary and effective “real” weight element to your workout.
The biggest pro’s are :
1.Very easy to use, the dials move smoothly allowing you to change the weight quickly, allowing you a quicker and more effective workout
2.Space requirements are minimal
3.Together with another piece of strength equipment, keeps you and your muscles motivated.
The con’s are:
1.Very pricey
2.The locking mechanism and actually weight should be made of steel, not plastic. After lifting to exhaustion, you can’t just drop the weights. You need to “guide” them into the base. This could present a problem with heavier weight.
3. Cannot add to the weight beyond 52.5. As your level goes up, this may limit you
Overall, very good system but long term durable could be achilles heal
